Kenya misses out on medals in the Women’s 10,000m at the World Athletics Championships

For the first time since 2007, Kenya has missed a medal in the women’s 10,000-meter race at the World Athletics Championships, with rivals Ethiopia carrying the day sweeping a clean podium finish.

Gidaf Tsegay sprinted for gold recording a time of 31:27.18, leading compatriots Letesenbet Gidey and Ejgayehu Taye to clinch Silver and Bronze recording a time of 31:28.16(Gidey) and 31:28.31(Taye) respectively.

Kenya’s best performer was Irene Kamais clocking 31:32.19 to coming in fourth.

Agnes Jebet Ngetich recorded 31:34.83 to come in distance Sixth, however, it was far more disappointing for Grace Nawowuna the world’s third fastest woman to trail at the event finishing ninth.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian-born Dutch middle- and long-distance runner Sifan Hassan fell after an unfortunate slip almost 50 meters to the finish line.

Sifan had entered the 1,500m, 10,000m, and 5,000m and was seeking to clinch a treble in the completion however the 10,000 meter is gone.
