Kenya Power warns of temporary shutdown for the token system

Pre-paid customers are advised by Kenya Power and Lighting Company to purchase enough tokens to cover them until Tuesday, June 3.

The power connectivity company said on Monday that the prepaid token vending service would not be operating on Sunday, June 2 till Monday, June 3.

“We wish to inform our customers that that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable from 10:00PM Sunday, 2nd June to 10:00PM Monday, 3rd June to enable us upgrade our system for improved service delivery,” read part of their statement.

This means customers would not purchase tokens through any of their platforms.

“Customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens from all vending points including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money and banking channels.”

Consequently, Kenyans are urged to purchase enough tokens before then to avoid any inconvenience.

This comes even as certain parts of the country experience scheduled power outages. Kenya Power says this is to facilitate network maintenance, particularly as heavy rains rock the country.
