In the 46th edition of the Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship, Libyan side Ittihad Club delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Kenya Prisons in their Pool C preliminary round match at Ittihad Hall.
Ittihad dominated throughout, winning the sets 25-21, 25-20, and 25-16, showcasing tactical discipline, attacking sharpness, and a solid defensive structure that overwhelmed the Kenyan team.
Kenya Prisons, who have struggled in the tournament with one win and multiple losses, now face the challenge of regrouping as they seek to advance.
Their inconsistent form was highlighted by earlier defeats, including a 3-2 loss to Mauritius’ Orange Club and a narrow 3-2 loss to Rwanda’s Kepler, putting their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s Faith Union Sport (FUS) also recorded a dominant straight-sets win (25-14, 25-20, 25-13) against Algeria’s Club Castel.
FUS displayed consistent technical mastery and a strong defensive organization, limiting Club Castel to just 47 points overall while scoring 75 themselves.
The match, lasting just over an hour, underscored FUS’s clear superiority and strong position in the competition.
Kenyan teams have had mixed fortunes in the championship. General Service Unit (GSU) have been impressive, remaining unbeaten with four wins in Group B, including a recent 3-2 victory over FUS Rabat, positioning them well for the knockout stages.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have had a tougher run, with some wins but also straight-set losses, such as a recent 3-0 defeat to Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis24.
Overall, Ittihad’s win over Kenya Prisons and FUS’s authoritative victory highlight the competitive nature of the tournament, with Kenyan teams needing to elevate their performances to advance further.
