Kenya ready for Africa region IV Golf Championship in Kigali

Team Kenya has declared its readiness for the upcoming Africa Region IV Golf Championship, set to take place from October 3rd to 6th at the Kigali Golf Resort in Rwanda.

The four-man team was officially handed the national flag by Sports Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Tum in a ceremony ahead of their departure. Kenya will compete against golf teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, Seychelles, Réunion, and the host nation, Rwanda.

Team Kenya Members

The national golf team comprises:

  • Michael Karanga
  • John Lejirma
  • Elvis Muigua
  • Adel Balala

These talented golfers will represent Kenya in the prestigious regional tournament, aiming to bring the title home.

Government Support for Kenyan Golf

Speaking at the flag-handing ceremony, Sports Principal Secretary Tum reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting golf and working closely with the Kenya Golf Union to strengthen the sport’s infrastructure.

In a communique to media outlets, Tum stated, “We are keen on discussing potential funding for a professional golf league with the Federation. Our talented amateurs must have a clear pathway for career progression.”

Philip Ochola, Chairman of the Kenya Golf Federation, also highlighted Kenya’s interest in becoming a key player in African golf development. “Kenya is also keen on hosting the Africa Golf Confederation offices. This would not only strengthen our local golfing community but also position Kenya as a leading hub for golf development in the region,” Ochola added.
