Kenya Rugby fraternity is mourning the passing of celebrated referee Daniel Chibata

The Rift Valley Region Rugby Referees Society (RVRRS) is mourning the loss of their Chairperson, Daniel Chibata, who passed away just three months after taking office. Chibata, a celebrated rugby referee, succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Tuesday morning after a seven-month battle with the illness.

The news of Chibata’s passing was confirmed by RVRRS Secretary-General Robinson Kiplagat, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss and urged the entire rugby community to support Chibata’s family during this challenging time.

“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I come to you with a heavy and bleeding heart this morning, bearing the devastating news that our beloved chairman has been called by the heavenly Father,” Kiplagat’s statement read.

“This morning, at 4 a.m., Beda Daniel took his last breath, bringing to an end a gallant seven-month battle. Throughout his illness, the chairman remained steadfast, never losing his trademark sense of humor until the fight became too much and his soul could no longer bear it.

“Mr. Beda had served as our chairman for three years, having been elected by the members, and he repaid that trust by serving the society with all his heart and might. This loss is immeasurable. In due course, further communication will be made regarding the plans and the role we can play as a society to give our friend a befitting send-off, as well as to support the young but needy family he has left behind. For now, let’s keep the family in our prayers. May the soul of our dear chairman rest in peace,” Kiplagat concluded.

Daniel Chibata is survived by his two daughters. The rugby community continues to grieve the loss of a dedicated leader who served with passion and commitment.
