Kenya Rugby Union opens bidding for 2025 national sevens circuit fourth leg

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially initiated the bidding process for the fourth leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit with the circuit set to run from July to September across six destinations.

The host team for this leg, scheduled for the weekend of August 23-24, 2025, will have the opportunity to organize one of Kenya’s premier rugby events.

According to KRU, hosting the tournament will not only provide financial benefits for the selected club but also contribute to the development of rugby at both local and national levels.

“With the KRU Board’s approval, the National Sevens Circuit will return to full normalcy in 2025, and we are now seeking to appoint a host team for the fourth leg of the circuit. A tournament of this significance will deliver a positive impact and legacy for both the host team and county, as well as foster the development of the game locally and nationally. We expect the bidding club to generate revenue from hosting the event to support their annual activities,” read the statement.

With Driftwood 7s in Mombasa (July 26-27), Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru (August 2-3), and Christie 7s in Nairobi (August 16-17) already confirmed, the fourth leg remains open for bidding. The final two tournaments—Kabeberi 7s in Nairobi (September 6-7) and Dala 7s in Kisumu (September 13-14)—will conclude the circuit.

Bidders must carefully review and complete the bid document, which outlines Kenya Rugby’s requirements and provides a technical description of the tournament. The completed bidding document should be submitted to the Kenya Rugby Chief Executive Officer on or before February 26, 2025.

Defending champions Kenya Harlequin are poised to return after their triumphant victory in the 2024 National Sevens Circuit, marking their first title since 2012. Harlequin showcased remarkable consistency throughout the season, reaching five semi-finals out of six tournaments and securing victories at both the Kakamega Ingo 7s and Driftwood 7s, ultimately clinching the overall title for the 2024 National Sevens Circuit.
