Kenya tourists visiting Uganda shoots up

A recent report released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that Kenyans are the leading source of tourists for Uganda.

The number of Kenyan tourists visiting Uganda had shot up by 40,000 by the end of December 2022.

“Kenya is Uganda’s leading source market for tourists, however, Uganda is Kenya’s second biggest source market for tourists,” said Ambassador Paul Mukumbya who released the report findings during the launch of the second Uganda-Kenya Coast tourism conference.

Ambassador Mukumbya noted that Uganda’s fancy Kenya more for their coastal beaches, scenery and features.

“Ugandas wed in Kenya or visit Kenya to spend their honeymoons at Coastal hotels,” said Ambassador Mukumbya.

“It contributes more than 7% of our National GDP and it employs a significant number of people directly or indirectly ranging from government, private sector, education tourism, leisure events promoters, professional associations and individuals to training institutions,” added Ambassador Mukumbya

He highlighted Namugongo Martyrs Shrines, the Source of River Nile and Uganda’s rich culture as factors that can make Uganda one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
