The Kenya Women’s Amputee football team was stranded in Frankfurt, Germany, on their way home from Colombia, where they participated in the inaugural WAFF Women’s World Cup.
The Lionesses were impressive in the competition; they won against Ukraine 1-0 in the quarterfinals, but they were ousted in the semis after a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Poland.
The 12-woman team and their coaching staff were on their way from Barranquilla, Colombia, when they got stuck in Germany.
Unable to board their connecting flight to Nairobi after a lengthy layover, the girls needed food and a place to rest.
Distress calls were sent to Kenyans living in Germany as the stranded team ran out of options.
“Somehow the 12 women and their coach are asking us to help them find a place where they can spend a night, refresh, and maybe also get something to eat as they wait to connect their flight tomorrow back to Nairobi.” Oscar told Mozzartsport
Oscar rallied friends to open a WhatsApp group and raised funds to accommodate the girls as they awaited their flight the next day.
Kudos to Kenyans living in Germany for giving the girls shelter and food. The females were captured on tape sleeping in makeup beds and eating sandwiches.
They emphatically thanked well-wishers for standing with them.
