Kenyan Kevin Kang’ethe to be deported to US, face charges of killing girlfriend

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are planning to deport Kenyan fugitive Kevin Kang’ethe who is wanted in the United States for allegedly killing his girlfriend.

This was after police officers arrested Kevin Kang’ethe on January 29, 2024, for being a suspect behind the murder of a 31-year-old Kenyan nurse Margaret Mbitu in the US.

In a statement on January 30, the US embassy noted that United States law enforcement, the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions were working together to locate and arrest the suspect.

“United States law enforcement, the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have been working side by side to locate and capture the fugitive,” said the US embassy.

The US embassy in Nairobi also commended the efforts of Kenyan law enforcement for apprehending Kang’ethe over the murder of Margaret Mbitu in Massachusetts sometime between October 30 and November 4, 2023.

“Grateful for our partners in Kenyan law enforcement who worked with U.S. counterparts to apprehend a fugitive wanted for murder in the United States,” read the statement.

DCI officers, through a tip from the public, made their way at an entertainment joint in Westlands, Nairobi where the suspect was clubbing and arrested him.

Kevin is currently being held at Gigiri Police Station as investigations continue to uncover what happened on November 7th 2023.

“We have a man believed to be the suspect who is wanted in the US over alleged murder. We are waiting for more profiling to know the way forward,” said the police.

Meanwhile, Margaret’s mother reported that she had revealed a break up with a man before she lost her life.

The US police found Margaret’s lifeless body in November 2023 inside a car in the parking lot which belonged to the suspect.
