The 38th edition of the Buenos Aires Marathon will forever be Memorable to Kenya’s Robert Kimutai Ngeno.
As it is the day he missed out on KSH 1.1M top prize through a fault that is not of his own at the competition.
They say a dog is mans best friend however after this incident Kimutai may not agree with this saying.
The 29-year-old Kenyan runner was attack by a stray dog in Argentina on Sunday 24 September when he was almost half way through the marathon.
The stray dog suddenly appeared from nowhere at the 28km mark and began chasing Kimutai down , consequently messing up his focus.
He was running, running not for the money but for his dear life, this made him drop out from the leading pack in the race to shake off the dog.
Upon seeing his obvious distress a group of spectators came to his rescue to shoo away the dog.
However despite the dog related frustration Kimutai managed to challenge compatriot Edwin Kibet for a third place finish, clocking a time of 2:10:16.
Kenyans Cornelius Kibet Kiplagat won the race Clocking in at 2:08.29.
The 2016 Rio Olympics 10,000m silver medalist, Paul Kipng’etich Tanui came in second in 2:09:57.
Robert Kimutai complete the podium finish for Kenya.
