Kenyan midfielder Linton Maina, who plays for German club FC Köln, was subjected to fan misconduct after being pelted with projectiles and insulted during a post-match interview. The incident occurred after FC Köln secured a 2-2 draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf in the intense Rhine derby.
During an interview with Sky Sports reporter Thomas Wagner, the former Hannover 96 winger faced abusive chants from Düsseldorf fans, who shouted, “Every Cologne player is a son of a bch.”**
The situation escalated when an e-cigarette was hurled towards Maina. Wagner addressed the unruly behavior, stating, “Something is being thrown at Linton. That’s pretty antisocial, you could say.”
Despite the chaos, the 23-year-old Harambee Stars prospect maintained his composure and continued with the interview. He expressed his disappointment, saying, “To put it bluntly, it feels like crap when you get something like that at the last second. I don’t know whether I should be angry or disappointed.”
Maina had been booked in the final moments of the match following a confrontation with Düsseldorf forward Jona Niemiec.

Despite the fan disorder, local authorities were satisfied with the derby’s overall security, noting no major violent incidents had been reported as of the police statement.
