Kenyan volleyball clubs participated with determination at the recently concluded 46th African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship held in Misrata, Libya.
Despite stiff competition from across the continent, Kenya’s teams demonstrated commendable effort and competitiveness throughout the tournament.
General Service Unit (GSU) finished in 10th place, while Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) secured 11th position. Kenya Prisons Volleyball Club, another strong contender, ended the championship in 18th place.
These rankings reflect the challenges Kenyan clubs face in a highly competitive field dominated by North African and East African powerhouses.
The championship was ultimately won by Libya’s Swehly Sports Club, who defeated Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis in a thrilling final.
The tournament featured 23 teams from across Africa, showcasing the growing standard and popularity of volleyball on the continent.
Kenyan teams faced tough opponents such as Al Ahly Sporting Club (Egypt), Army Patriotique du Rwanda, and Volleyball Club Espoir from the Democratic Republic of Congo, all of whom finished higher in the rankings.
Nevertheless, Kenya’s clubs gained valuable experience and exposure, which will be crucial for their development and future continental campaigns.
