Nelly Chepchirchir, Susan Ejore, and Faith Kipyegon have all qualified for the 1500 meters semi-finals at the Olympics. Nelly Chepchirchir won Heat 3 with a time of 4:02.67. Susan Ejore finished third in Heat 1, clocking 3:59.01, while world 1500 meters record holder Faith Kipyegon put up a spirited performance in Heat 2, finishing fourth and securing a semi-final spot with a time of 4:00.74.
Faith Kipyegon has expressed her gratitude for the support from Kenyans following her ordeal in the 5000 meters final, where she almost had her victory stolen due to a collision with Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay. Despite the incident, Tsegay has also qualified for the 1500 meters semi-finals. Kipyegon is determined to fight for a podium finish in the 1500 meters.
“To be honest, I feel tired after last night, but I am feeling good. This is a different race and my traditional race. My focus is fully on making Kenyans proud. I have no comment about yesterday as it was hard. This is sport, and I am Faith. I’ve always participated fairly, and now I am focused on the 1500 meters. I have to keep going. It will be beautiful,” Kipyegon said.
