President William Ruto has just given a list of the first batch of Cabinet Secretaries and social media is abuzz.
Ladies and gentlemen, the first Batch of 11 Cabinet Secretaries appointed to the Cabinet are as follows: Kithure Kindiki- Interior, Dr Debra Mulongo Barasa -Health, Alice Wahome – Lands, Julius Ogamba- Education, Aden Duale – Defence, Dr Andrew Karanja – Agriculture, Soipan Tuya – Environment, Eric Muriithi – Water, Davis Chirchir – Transport, Dr Margaret Ndungu – ICT, and finally Attorney General – Rebecca Miano.
What most of us are curious about is whether this list will be accepted by the revolutionary Gen-Z. Is it what they expected? Are they satisfied by President Ruto’s nominees? Did they expect more?
Five former Cabinet Secretaries are seen on the list and that is something else we need to confirm is okay for the people. Duale, Kindiki, Tuya, Chirchir and Miano have been nominated, again. Now Duale and Kindiki have retained their respective dockets while Miano is nominated for the post of Attorney General.
Social media is abuzz with people having divided opinions about the president’s announcement. Some say they are okay with the first selection and others are of the opinion that the president should have made a better selection. But what could have been a better selection according to them? We do not know yet and hopefully they might give out names: as long as it does not feature your local rapper or socialite, otherwise it will be a bummer.
As of now, social media is abuzz with opinions and hashtags. It is clear that most do not want the recycling of leaders and the president will have a hard time pleasing the wananchi. What will it take to please them? What will it take for the nation to move forward? Will there be protests? As I continue to monitor the internet spaces for updates, please remember to be kind to yourself this weekend: it has been a long and rough couple of days.
