Kenya’s Millicent Ndoro made a strong statement in the 200m dash, W35 category at the ongoing World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Alachua County, Gainesville, Florida.
After missing her first race due to a late arrival, Ndoro dominated her semifinal heat on Thursday, setting a course record with a time of 24.89 seconds.
Her impressive performance positions her as the favorite heading into the final set for later this evening.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Muthoka initially topped her heat in the W50 category but was later disqualified for a lane infringement.
Despite the setback, she remains in contention as she gears up for the 400m, W50 event on Saturday.
In the field events, Daniel Kimeli Tanui competed in the discus throw M60 category but finished sixth with a throw of 43.60m, falling short of the podium.
The gold and silver medals went to Americans Victor DeMarines (54.63m) and Paul Rosati (50.64m), while Germany’s Robert Ingenbleek claimed bronze.
Today, Team Kenya has a packed schedule with five athletes in action. Ndoro will contest the 200m final, while Eric Sikuku competes in the 3000m walk final.
Regina Mulathya, who won silver in the long jump, will seek another medal in the triple jump. Tanui returns for the javelin event, and Kenya’s 3000m gold medalist will take on the 1500m semifinal.
Kenya has so far secured four medals—two gold and two silver—in this inaugural event, which concludes on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
