After a successful outing in Zimbabwe in the Africa Rugby U20 Barthes trophy, the Kenya National junior rugby team Chipu now shifts to the World Rugby Cup championship slated in June.
Coach Simon Jawichre noted that they are heading into the competition full of confidence after clinching the African title when they beat hosts Zimbabwe 28-13 during the title decider played on Sunday April 28, 2024 in Harare.
Chipu returned to the country on Monday April 29 after a series of games in the Barthes Trophy Championship held in Zimbabwe.
The Kenyan team under the tutelage of Coach Simon Jawichre displayed thrilling performances in all there encounters during the competition.
In the final, the Kenyan boys lost no hope since they had the support of Kenyans in Diaspora and other fans from the Barthes Trophy Championship.
Tries from Idd Okuta, Michael Wamalwa and Patrick Wainana were enough to spearhead Chipu as they took the lead from the hosts.
As the first half ended, the lead was 17-10 with Chipu leading the hosts Zimbabwe.
James Olela extended the win with a penalty while the game was 60 minutes.
Andy Cole Omollo and Phillip Okeyo sealed the victory with penalties in the final minutes of the game.
The Barthes Trophy featured four teams mainly Namibia, Tunisia, Hosts: Zimbabwe and Kenya who were well represented by Chipu.
