Kepa hints he does not want to return to Chelsea

SportsWORLD

Kepa Arrizabalaga is optimistic about the possibility of his loan spell with Real Madrid becoming a permanent arrangement next year, as the Chelsea loanee engages in discussions about his future.

Chelsea had made a substantial £71.6 million investment in the Spanish goalkeeper back in 2018, but he faced challenges in meeting expectations at Stamford Bridge – at some point losing his spot to Senegal international Edouard Mendy.

After amassing 163 appearances for Chelsea, Kepa made his departure this summer to join Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal. The move to the Spanish giants came in response to an ACL injury sidelining Thibaut Courtois for an extended period.

When queried about his future, Kepa expressed his desire to remain at Real Madrid. He stated, “Of course, I’d love to stay at Real Madrid in the future. Who wouldn’t want to remain at this club? I’m exceptionally content here.”

The 29-year-old has started in seven league matches, securing four clean sheets and maintaining a commendable save percentage of 76.2%. The decision on whether Real Madrid will pursue a permanent deal for Kepa remains uncertain, but the potential of securing his services at a reduced cost exists.

Kepa’s contract with Chelsea runs until 2025, which leaves only a year on his deal in London when his loan spell in Spain comes to an end. Chelsea is likely to entertain offers for the Spanish goalkeeper, especially given that he does not appear to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans.

“The loan move to Madrid transpired swiftly. While the option of Bayern Munich existed, Real Madrid made the call, and I didn’t hesitate,” Kepa revealed.
