Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) National Chairman, Johnson Nzioka, has passed away following a fatal road accident that occurred on Sunday February 16, 2025, along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway at Athi River.
A Leader Remembered
Nzioka was a respected figure in Kenya’s education sector, known for his strong leadership and commitment to improving teachers’ welfare.
His tenure at KEPSHA was marked by efforts to unify head teachers and advocate for their interests during a time of major reforms in the education system.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Collins Oyuu, mourned Nzioka’s passing, describing him as a skilled diplomat and a key figure in shaping KEPSHA’s leadership.
“Nzioka consistently championed the well-being of teachers and played a crucial role in fostering peace and cooperation among educators,” Oyuu said. “His leadership was soft-spoken yet firm, and his contributions will not be forgotten.”
Condolences Pour In
Oyuu extended his condolences to Nzioka’s family and the entire teaching fraternity, emphasizing the impact he had on the education sector.
“On behalf of the KNUT National Executive Council, teachers’ leadership across Kenya, and personally, I send heartfelt sympathies to his wife, children, and loved ones,” he said. “May they find strength in this difficult time.” Oyoo added.
Funeral Arrangements Underway
KEPSHA Treasurer, Kennedy Kyeva, confirmed that Nzioka’s body will be moved to Lee Funeral Home on Monday, February 17, 2025. Further funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Nzioka’s passing is a significant loss to the education sector, with many mourning the departure of a leader who dedicated his career to supporting teachers and improving education in Kenya.
