Several residents of Litein town in Kericho County are counting losses after a fire incident that led to destruction of several rental houses.
However, the fire was timely contained on Monday August 12, 2024 morning after the Fire Brigade responded promptly to help area residents in putting off the fire.
Residents reported the fire incident after noticing thick smoke filling the air within the affected area.
Although the Kericho Fire Brigade team responded promptly, the distance hindered their ability to arrive in time.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but police have launched investigations into the matter.
The incident comes a few days after a fire razed homes and churches near Muhindi Mweusi Supermarket in Muruku Kwa Njenga slums in Nairobi on August 6.
Fire outbreaks are common in most Nairobi’s informal settlements that are characterized by congestion and poor sanitation.
A similar fire incident occurred several days ago at Toi Market in Kibra constituency where several businesses were destroyed.
