Kericho: Residents reject free fertilizer and maize, demand justice for murder victim

Residents of Arokyet, Bureti, stormed the team of Kericho Woman Representative Beatrice Kemei during a fundraising event for the late Amos Langat, who was shot dead by a police officer, Mohamed Yusuf Keinan, in Nairobi.

This came after a representative from Kemei’s team began highlighting the efforts of the Woman Representative in distributing maize and fertilizers while promising more aid for the region.

However, the residents dismissed these remarks as political propaganda and public relations stunts.

They insisted that politicians should stop using tragic events for personal gain and instead focus on ensuring justice for the grieving family.

“We are tired of leaders coming to such events only to advance their political interests instead of addressing the real issue at hand. The family of Amos Langat deserves justice, not empty promises of food aid,” a resident remarked.

The angry residents further expressed their frustration with Kericho leaders, accusing them of neglecting people in rural areas.

They criticized the poor state of infrastructure, particularly the road leading to the bereaved family’s home. Many questioned how the body would be transported for burial under such conditions, calling on the county leadership to take immediate action.

The incident highlights growing discontent among residents over what they perceive as political insensitivity and misplaced priorities by their leaders.

The family of Amos Langat continues to demand justice, urging authorities to ensure that the police officer responsible for his death is held accountable.
