A welder has been electrocuted to death in Sigowet-Soin Sub-County, Kericho County as residents raise alarm over the safety of workers in the welding industry.
The incident occurred in the welder’s workshop in Sondu trading center.
According to reports, the man was electrocuted when he came into contact with exposed electric cables from the welding machine.
”He stepped on stagnant water near the workshop. He did not have shoes on at the time,” stated a witness.
The locals said that the electricity rendered the man immobile before he died on the spot.

”Members of the public who witnessed the incident tried to rescue him but he had already succumbed,” read part of the police report.
The incident was reported at Sondu Police Station and the officers removed the body from the scene to Sigowet-Soin Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
3-year-old boy electrocuted in Kayole
In a similar case, a 3-year-old boy was electrocuted while playing on the balcony of their home in Kayole, Nairobi.
Simon Waithaka who is the DCI boss of Njiru, confirmed the incident that happened in December 2023.

Some causes of electrocution
Some of the causes of electrocution include, faulty appliances, damaged extension leads, electrical appliances with water and many other causes.
However, it is advisable not to use damaged or defective power outlets, power strips, or extension cords.
Also, keep wet hands away from power outlets and dispose of open electrical wires.
