Cape Media’s Editorial Director Macharia Wamugo today (Wednesday) held a meeting with Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) over compliance regulations.
KFCB Corporate Communications Manager Nelly Muluka took the team through a number of issues including filming requirement.
Diana Tarik, Head of Programming at Cape Media-owned TV47 accompanied Mr Mugo to the crucial meeting.
“Mr. Macharia Wamugo, the Editorial Director Cape Media Africa and TV, accompanied by Ms. Diana Tarik, Head of Programming, were taken through the Board’s regulatory mandate, and all the filming requirements in Kenya among other issues,” KFCB wrote in a statement.
The Cape Media officials were also enlightened on KFCB’s self-classification framework.
“The team also explored the self-classification framework, which the Board in consultation with stakeholders developed & that will see broadcasters, Video-On-Demand & Over-the-Top service providers involved in the classification of their audio-visual content once implemented,” read part of KFCB’s statement.
This framework was developed after the country switched from analogue to digital broadcasting transmission, in efforts to cope with increasing content on various broadcasting platforms.
Under this framework, broadcasters examine and rate 70 per cent of the content they air on the platforms.
Muluka reiterated this was in line with their commitment as a film regulatory body to spur growth in the creative industry. This is part of the Talanta Hela Initiative launched by President William Ruto under his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
