Khalif Kairo was re-arrested after appearing in court on Tuesday January 28, 2028 as police investigated claims related to his car business.
He was arrested outside Milimani Law Court and taken to DCI headquarters for questioning.
Earlier, Kairo had asked the court to release his passport for a seven-day trip to the US for a fundraiser.
Through his lawyer, Davidson Makau, he told Magistrate Lucas Onyina he needed the documents to travel.
The prosecution stated that Kairo must provide trip details, including his departure date, before his passport could be released.
Magistrate Onyina scheduled a mention for January 31 to confirm the required documents.
Kairo faces charges of failing to honor car sale agreements and two counts of cheating under Section 315 of the Penal Code.
He was granted a Ksh1 million cash bail or an alternative bond for each charge.
One charge alleges Kairo induced Jeff Munane to pay Ksh2.1 million for a Honda Vezel hybrid that was never delivered.
He also faces a similar charge from Dona Okoth, who transferred Ksh2.98 million for a car purchase.
