Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has rubbished claims that his administration has increased land rates and other levies.
Speaking at St Benedict Catholic Church in Ngoigwa, Thika, Wamatangi said since he came into office, his administration has not sponsored any new law on land rates and other levies.
He insisted that his administration is working with existing laws approved by previous county assemblies.
The governor said the law that is being applied in the collection of land rates was passed in 2016. He added that his administration had granted a six-month waiver on penalties and interests accruing on land rates.
Property owners will only need to pay the principal amounts, County Assembly Deputy Speaker John Njiru echoed the governor’s statement, confirming that the current assembly has not discussed or approved any laws to increase rates in the county.
This clarification aims to address concerns and rumours regarding a purported increase in land rates and levies in Kiambu County.
