A family in Juja, Kiambu County, is grappling with the tragic loss of Peter Kimani, a man who was killed at his home during a robbery incident on Wednesday November 6, 2024 at night.
Kimani, who had recently retired from public service and fulfilled a dream of building a new family home, was with his wife and daughter when the tragedy unfolded.
The assailant broke a window to gain entry, shattering the night’s silence and the family’s sense of security.
The noise startled Kimani’s daughter, who recalls waking up to the sight of the intruder.
Meanwhile, the intruder identified himself as a thief, warning her to remain silent.
“I asked who it was, and the man said, ‘I’m a thief! Stay silent,” she said adding her father had only lived in the new house for about a year.
Despite her compliance, the robber’s aggression escalated, resulting in a violent confrontation that led to Kimani’s untimely death.
The man’s wife who is widowed now claimed that they were apparently drugged during the break-in since the thug had a chemical in his palm that they believe they breathed.
“We thought it was kerosene but now I think it was something to confuse us as we could not defend ourselves even with the pangas or jembes in our bedroom,” the wife said.
According to the family, the intruder used an axe to enter the house and immediately hacked Kimani before requesting cash and other belongings.
In addition, videos shared on social media reveal that the robber gained access after smashing the bedroom door with an axe.
According to police, the attack is part of a gang’s string of robberies in Juja.
“We are following some leads, and I know we will soon catch the attacker,” said Jackson Sang, OCPD Juja.
