Kibet Bull, Ronny Kiplangat recount abduction ordeal after emotional family reunion

Gideon Kibet alias Kibet Bull and his brother Ronny Kiplangat were on Tuesday, January 7 reunited with their family.

Bull, a Digital cartoonist known for his viral caricatured silhouettes of President William Ruto, and Kiplangat were released on Monday, January 6 after being allegedly abducted for two weeks.

The Joy of a mother was evident in Sangawet village of Kuresoi South, Nakuru County, when she set her eyes on her two sons who she has been looking for since they were allegedly abducted.

Bull, the second born in a family of 10, was allegedly abducted on December 25, 2024 and was later dumped at Luanda area of Vihiga County, while his brother Ronny was dumped in Machakos.

While talking to this reporter, Bull explains that unknown people in a white double cabin vehicle abducted him after he had visited the office of Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah in Nairobi.

On his part, Kiplangat was on December 21 abducted after attending a church service at the Kikuyu Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he serves as a youth leader.

Kiplangat, however, believes he was mistaken for his brother Bull. “I believe my abduction came as my abductors were trying to trace my brother Kibet.”

According to Bull, the men blindfolded him before driving for hours. They then locked him up in container room. The men did not say anything to him but instead asked him if he was aware of why he was with them.

“The men then freed me in Luanda area of Vihiga County at around 4 am, where I decided to go to attend a nearby disco matanga (night vigil) awaiting morning time.”

He also explained why he had to attend the night vigil. “Government bloggers are using the Disco Matanga thing to push a narrative. Knocked on three houses to tell them about the incident but didn’t get a response; the other had fierce dogs,” Kibet narrated on X.

Kibet has strongly denied allegations of having staged his own abduction, as claimed by a section of Kenyans and politicians, saying that they could not willingly cause agony to their family. “Hatuwezi kuji-abduct alafu tukuje mpaka nyumbani, mzazi hawezi lia bure juu ya kuji-abduct.”

At the same time, the brothers have appealed to the government to use legal means in arresting and bringing to books government critics and activists instead of abducting them.
