‘Kiharu Masomo Bora’: MP Ndindi Nyoro launches programme that will see day school students pay KSh1,000 per term

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro on Thursday, January 11 launched an enhanced programme that will see every child within his constituency access education.

Dubbed ‘Kiharu Masomo Bora’, the programme — which aims at improving education in Kiharu Constituency — will involve various aspects that include; school fees waivers, infrastructure improvements, nutritional support, and bursaries.

‘Kiharu Masomo Bora’ targets 15,000 students in all the 62 Day Secondary Schools in the constituency, and it will be funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Aspects of ‘Kiharu Masomo Bora’ programme

According to MP Nyoro, the initiative will see a massive school fees waiver where students will pay only KSh1,000 per term.

Also, all the expenses — including school unforms — of students in 20 schools will be catered for by the programme that has overseen massive improvement of schools infrastructure (classrooms, laboratories, libraries and toilets).

Free nutritious meals

Ideally, nutritious meals will be provided to all learners in all the 62 day secondary schools for six days a week.

Speaking during the launch in at Mumbi Grounds, Murang’a Town, the youthful lawmaker said the meals will include; porridge at 10 am, lunch (githeri 3 days and rice 3 days) and chapati once a month.

Further, NG-CDF bursaries will be extended to needy students in boarding schools and higher learning institutions.

“KSh10 million has been set aside to purchase revision materials for all 62 day secondary schools. This programme will also see the renovation (tiling) of all the 112 primary schools within Kiharu,” MP Nyoro said.

Additionally, ‘Kiharu Masomo Bora’ will introduce the aspect of rewarding the best improved day school principal and teachers of best-performing subjects with trips to Dubai and Mombasa, respectively.

Ndindi Nyoro, man on a mission

This programme was first piloted in the previous year, benefitting 13,000 students with school fees payment.

MP Ndindi Nyoro’s usage of NG-CDF to not only promote education in his constituency but also other aspects of life has been lauded across the country.

In 2023, Infortrak voted Nyoro as the best-performing lawmaker.

Early this year, 15 MPs visited Kiharu Constituency just to benchmark on the best practices that leaders can adopt in their constituencies.

MP Nyoro has overseen the construction of roads in uphill places on concrete, tiling of class rooms, putting cabro and modern roofing in primary schools.

This elaborate programme seeks to uplift education levels through changes in attitude, character, and confidence. It also seeks to emphasize the importance of the environment in addition to motivation, and improving enrolment and transition rates to secondary schools.
