Mnazi sellers in Malindi town, Kilifi County have received business inputs that will help them boost their trade.
Speaking at Mbuzi Wengi area, Malindi MP Amina Munyazi also urged women to organize themselves into groups so that they can benefit from government grants and loans to start and run businesses.
The more than one hundred women from the Malindi Manzi sellers Women group received market umbrellas that will shield them from harsh weather as they go about their mnazi selling ventures.
She gave them Ksh100,000 that will also be used as a rotational loan for the women to enable them sustain their businesses.
Most of the women run their businesses on roadsides and public spaces and are often exposed to harsh weather conditions.
“These hard working mothers face tough conditions while trying to make a living. I felt it was important to support them with umbrellas for protection,” she said.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance, emphasizing how the support would positively impact their businesses.
“We are business ladies who spend the whole day under the scorching sun. We truly appreciate Amina Mnyazi for blessing us with umbrellas to protect ourselves,” said Loyce Dama, a beneficiary.
“The high cost of living has made it difficult to run our businesses, but we are grateful for the Ksh 100,000, which will help sustain us,” added Gladys Karembo.
Elizabeth Muthoka, a resident, commended the MP’s kindness, stating that many women vendors were suffering while doing their businesses and the conditions they operate in was making them lose clients.
“Many mothers suffer during rainy and sunny seasons due to a lack of shade. I thank Hon. Amina Munyazi for listening to our cries and offering help,” she said.
Also present at the event was Sheila Ward MCA Twahir, who praised Mnyazi for her commitment to community empowerment.
“This is the kind of leadership we expect and need in Malindi. Leaders who listen and act to improve the lives of the people,” Twahir said.
