Kimani Ichung’wah reacts to Uhuru’s private runway at Northlands City

National NewsPolitics

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta for reportedly building a runway at his home in Kiambu County.

Ichungwah was speaking on TV47’s Daily Report hosted by senior anchor George Maringa every Monday at 9pm.

He affirmed that President William Ruto’s administration was different from the ‘handshake’ regime of allegedly misusing positions of power.

“We made State Capture a way of life where if I hold a position of influence I can use my position to even influence government policies towards attainment of very private business interests,” he explained.

Ichung’wah, who is set to present a bill on the same, stated that if the current administration failed to curb the habit it would be carried on by future leaders.

“Those who came to power after the Nyayo regime said ‘we came to eat not to serve’.”

Although he dispelled claims that he was targeting certain personalities who serve(d) in government, Ichung’wah threw jibes at the former Head of State.

“I should view the office that I hold as a privilege that I have been given by the people and God to serve other men. You cannot do that if state capture is seen as a way of life.

“We have made it okay that you as a president can do whatever you want. You can decide to construct a runway at your rural home so that you don’t have to go to Wilson you can just land on your farm. Why not influence government policy to make sure their milk business becomes a monopoly?” the Kikuyu MP added.

This comes about two weeks after photos emerged online of Kenyatta’s runway at his Northlands City property. A search on Google Maps describes it as  Northlands Aerodrome.

The airport contains a functional runway which can allow for the landing of private planes and jets. At the tail-end of the runway is an unmarked building, which is believed to be a hangar for aircraft.
