Kimanzi to be unveiled as Tabora United’s new coach in Tanzania

The immediate former Mathare United coach, Francis Kimanzi, is set to take a coaching role at Tanzania’s Tabora United, a Mainland Premier League side.

Kimanzi, who left his role as Mathare’s coach on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, will be replacing Masoud Juma at Tabora United after agreeing to a one-year deal with the club.

The 48-year-old has not yet arrived in Tanzania but is expected to begin his duties at the club this week.

Tabora United’s management has expressed confidence in Kimanzi, stating, “The board has settled on Kimanzi and believes he is the man the club needs,” said one of the club’s managers. “We needed a coach who has experience, and we understand that he is one of the best coaches in the East African region,” he added.

According to an article by Mwanaspoti, a Tanzanian publication, the UEFA A accredited coach asked the club’s management to take the team to Dar Es Salaam for their pre-season preparations.

Under the watch of Masoud Juma, Tabora United survived relegation last season through the playoffs, and days later, Juma parted ways with the club.

Kimanzi was first appointed to lead Mathare in 2008, where he was in charge of the Slum Boys until 2012. During that season, he helped Mathare clinch the Kenya Premier League title.

He later coached Sofapaka and Tusker FC before returning to Mathare in 2015.
