King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to undertake a State Visit to Kenya from October 31st to November 3rd, 2023.
The visit is intended to celebrate the strong relationship between Kenya and the United Kingdom.
Moreover, the visit is set to emphasize the dynamic partnership between Kenya and the UK.
The King’s visit comes as Kenya marks 60 years of independence from colonial Britain.
This State Visit is at the invitation of President Ruto and holds special significance as it marks King Charles III’s first visit to a Commonwealth nation as King.

The British throne in Kenya
Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in Kenya in February 1952 marking the start of her historic reign.
During their visit, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel to Nairobi City County, Mombasa County, and surrounding areas.
The visit’s program will highlight the cooperation between Kenya and the United Kingdom in various areas.
Kenya and the UK corporation includes mutual prosperity, climate change mitigation, youth opportunity and employment, sustainable development, and regional stability and security.

The King Charles’ Program
Their Majesties will meet with President Ruto, the First Lady, and members of the Kenyan Government.
They will also meet UN staff, CEOs, faith leaders, young people, and future leaders.
However, they will also meet Kenyan Marines training with UK Royal Marines in Kenya.
Moreover, the King will also participate in an event honouring the late Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai, together with Wangari’s daughter, Wanjira Mathai.
The visit will emphasize the close ties between the British and Kenyan people in fields such as the creative arts, technology, enterprise, education, and innovation.

British colonial history
The Monarch’s visit will also recognise the historical UK’s and Kenya’s shared history, including the Emergency period (1952-1960).
King Charles III will take the opportunity to deepen his understanding of the hardships endured by the Kenyan people during this period.
Their Majesties will tour a new museum dedicated to Kenya’s history and pay their respects.
Consequently, this will be followed by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Uhuru Gardens.
They will also visit the site where Kenya’s independence was declared in 1963.
