King Charles III, passionate about classical music, has released a playlist featuring Beyoncé, Bob Marley, and Nigerian star Davido.
The power of music and personal memories
In an Apple Music podcast, The King’s music room, Charles discussed how music evokes memories and brings comfort during tough times.
As head of the Commonwealth, he curated this playlist to honor Commonwealth Day, celebrated annually on the second Monday of March.
A royal DJ moment at Buckingham Palace
For the launch, King Charles posed at Buckingham Palace with a glowing “on air” sign, embracing a modern way to share music.
To mark the occasion, the palace’s ceremonial band performed ‘could you be loved’ by reggae legend Bob Marley.
A carefully selected mix of artists
Most featured artists come from Commonwealth nations, but Charles also included a few global stars with personal significance.
He praised Beyoncé and Kylie Minogue for supporting The King’s Trust, formerly The Prince’s Trust.
Additionally, he recalled meeting Bob Marley’s family during his visits to the Caribbean.
Davido, Raye, and afrobeat influence
Nigerian singer Davido is on the playlist with Kante, featuring Fave, highlighting Charles’ growing appreciation for Afrobeat music.
He also mentioned attending a live performance by British artist Raye at the Apple HQ in Battersea in December.
A Fresh approach to Commonwealth day
Rather than a traditional Westminster Abbey service, this playlist offers a creative way to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
Through each song, Charles shares personal stories and explains how music has shaped his life.
“This felt like an exciting and meaningful way to mark Commonwealth Day,” the King commented.
