Azimio leaders Jeremiah Kioni and Beatrice Elachi took on each other on TV47’s breakfast show Morning Cafe Thursday morning exposing silent wrangles within the coalition.
Kioni, Jubilee Party Secretary General, argued that it was becoming difficult to counter Kenya Kwanza Members of Parliament (MPs) on Bills reaching the floor of the House.
According to his sentiments, interference by the Executive was rendering their say as the minority almost useless in the National Assembly.
“Let the majority be the majority, and minority remain on their side. As long as political prostitution is going on on the floor of the House, Kenyans will continue to be frustrated.
“We are now looking upon the judiciary and civil societies. Even as we sit in Azimio we are asking which NGO can take these issues to court, because the other front of bunge is sold to Ruto,” he explained.
Dagoretti North MP Elachi, who is a member of Azimio’s ODM Party, countered Kioni’s argument, stating that the coalition’s leadership is lagging in their mandate.

She opined that reliance on Baba’s (Raila) intervention on all matters including crucial Bills meant to be passed by MPs was hurting the coalition.
“If Baba is not there things cannot work. It is wrong, and the Azimio leadership team should get this into their mind. When you say you have met in an economic council have you called your members and informed them about aspects to tackle on the floor of the House when Finance Bill is coming up?
“When you were doing NADCO it was like you were hiding, such that even time to present the report you do not inform your Azimio members,” Elachi explained.
Addressing Kioni and the larger Azimio leadership, the ODM MP urged them to do their due diligence ahead of the upcoming Finance Bill 2024/25 and equip opposition MPs with enough material before debates.
“We are running our things in our constituencies then rush to Parliament. Everyone is doing their own thing, there is no teamwork.
“I have been an SG once. I would do research and ensure my team understands bills and give them notes, because let’s be honest MPs will not read them (bills),” Elachi added.
