A 60-year-old woman is currently undergoing treatment at Kerugoya Hospital following her rescue from a pit latrine in Gitwe village, Kirinyaga County.
Rosemary Wangithi Koori, a landlady to several Kirinyaga University students, fell into a 45-foot deep latrine and remained trapped for 30 minutes.

According to her neighbor, Peter Mwangi, he heard her crying for help from inside the toilet and called the support from the County government.
Peter Mwangi stated, “She was stuck in the latrine for approximately 30 minutes while we waited for the support from the county.”
The head of the operation, John Kiama, said that they rushed Wangithi to the nearby hospital immediately after rescuing her.
“We successfully rescued her, and she is currently receiving medical attention due to exposure to human waste,” Kiama remarked.

Kiama urged all landladies to ensure they have adequate toilet facilities, especially in hostels for university students.
“These are student hostels, and it’s puzzling why she opted for an old, corrugated iron sheet toilet instead of constructing a proper one,” John Kiama questioned.
