Two people have been charged with defrauding businessman and politician Andrew Ngirici of Ksh 1.5 million in pretense of selling him a piece of land in Makutano, Kirinyaga county.
The two suspects Peter Macharia Kariuki and Henry Nguma Kamwere were arraigned before Baricho senior principal magistrate Stephen Nyaga on charges of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to section 313 of the penal code.
The court was informed that on 18th of August 2016 at Makutano area in Mwea-west sub-county the two suspects jointly with intent to defraud, obtained Ksh300,000 from Andrew Peter Ngirici by falsely pretending that they were in a position to sell to him land parcel Kiine/Rukanga 1518, a fact they knew was false.
On the second count the two on 22nd August 2016 at Makutano they jointly with intent to defraud obtained Ksh 1.2 million from the businessman by falsely pretending that they were in a position to sell to him the same parcel of land, a fact they knew was false.
The two denied the charges and were released on a Ksh200,000 bond each and a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh200,000.
Meanwhile, the court has set March 12, 2024 for hearing of the case.
However, Kirinyaga Businessman Andrew Ngirici protested the bail given to the two suspects, terming them serial land fraudsters
Ngirici noted that the two suspects have similar cases in Wang’uru, and Kerugoya.

He also warned lawyers who are allegedly colluding with fraudsters to steal land from widows in the county, adding that their days are numbered.
He called upon the Law society of Kenya to vet its members as some rogue lawyers are colluding with fraudsters in grabbing land; mostly targeting widows and single mothers.
