Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani has been dropped as the Principal Secretary (PS) for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, as President William Ruto made changes to his government.
The changes announced on Thursday, March 20 afternoon, President Ruto says, are driven by the need to harness the opportunities within emerging sectors of the economy, as well as to address challenges affecting Kenya’s social fabric.
“Collectively, the changes seek to further accelerate the implementation of the Administration’s seminal socio-economic blue-print, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” President Ruto says.
In the changes, Prof. Kisiangani has been appointed as a Senior Advisor and a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors.
Kisiang’ani will now be replaced in the PS position by Stephen Isaboke, the Group Executive, Head of Regulatory Affairs at MultiChoice Group.
Meanwhile, President Ruto has promoted Amos Gathecha from PS Public Service to Deputy Head of the Public Service at the Executive Office of the President.
Dr Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, who was part of Raila Odinga’s campaign team for the AU Commission chaiperson bid, has been nominated as the Principal Secretary for East African Community (EAC) Affairs.
Dr Fredrick Oluga Ouma, the former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union Secretary-General, has also being nominated as the PS for Medical Services, replacing Harry Kimtai. President Ruto has re-assigned Kimtai to the State Department for Mining.
Former ODM nominated Senator Judy Naiyai Pareno has been nominated as the PS for Justice, Human Rights & Constitutional Affairs at the Office of the Attorney General.
Dr Jane Kare Imbunya has been nominated as the PS for State Department for Public Service & Human Capital Development.
Other appointments
- Regina Akoth Ombam nominated as the PS for Trade in the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry.
- Cyrell Wagunda Odede nominated as the PS for Public Investments & Assets Management at the National Treasury.
- Ahmed Abdisalam Ibrahim nominated as the PS for State Department for National Gov’t Co-ordination at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
PSs re-assigned
President Ruto has also re-assigned PS Julius Bitok to the State Department for Basic Education, Ministry of Education.
PS Teresiah Mbaika will now move to the State Department for Aviation & Aerospace Development in the Ministry of Roads & Transport, in the same capacity.
PS Ismael Madey has been re-assigned to the State Department for Special Programmes, Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Devt. & Special Programmes.
PS Elijah Mwangi has been re-assigned to the State Department for Sports, while PS Belio Kipsang has been re-assigned to the State Department for Immigration & Citizen Services.
