Kisii: Family mourns after a girl who died after 2024 KCSE exams score B-

Nineteen-year-old Mitchelle Kemunto, who scored an impressive B- in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, tragically passed away from epilepsy just two days after completing the examinations.

Her untimely death has plunged her family and the community into mourning.

Kemunto’s mother, Vane Moraa, shared the devastating news, revealing that the family learned of her outstanding results from the school principal two days after the official release.

“She was epileptic, but we managed her condition as she pursued her education.

She completed her exams on November 15. I didn’t have the strength to check her results.

After two days, I called her school principal, who confirmed she had scored a B-,” Moraa said.

Despite battling epilepsy for years, Kemunto remained committed to her studies, earning admiration from her teachers and peers.

“Her whole life, she would say, ‘Mum, I want to be a doctor,’” Moraa added.

Her uncle described the situation as a double loss for the family, as the joy of receiving her impressive results was overshadowed by the grief of her passing.

“The pain is unbearable and feels fresh all over again because of her impressive results,” Kemunto’s uncle remarked.

The devastating news comes as other parents across the country celebrate their children’s academic achievements and plan their future careers.

For Kemunto’s family, her success is both a source of pride and a reminder of the dreams cut short.
