Kisii police officers sneak chang’aa into cells and party with murder suspects

Two police officers are currently at the Kisii police station, cooling their heels after being arrested for purchasing chang’aa for detainees and engaging in a drinking spree with them.

According to Kisii County Commissioner Patrick Mukuria, Constables Francis Ngugi and Erick Mogoi were on duty on Thursday night at the Rioma Police Station. During their shift, they brought chang’aa to the cells and shared it with the detainees.

“Investigations have established that two police officers attached to the said police station were on duty, and that is when they thought of giving the detainees a party with illicit brew,” Commissioner Mukuria stated, as quoted by Taifa Leo.

The detainees, David Mboga and Mathew Omanga, are murder suspects being held at the police station to allow for the conclusion of investigations, Mukuria said.

The noises and singing emanating from the police station prompted senior officers to take action. To their surprise, they found the two officers and the suspects intoxicated.

“Two police officers were found drunk and singing liberation songs. The detainees were also in the same state, singing songs to console themselves for their state in the cells,” he added.
