On the evening of December 13, 2024, the Kasagam Police Station received a tip-off.
It led to the successful arrest of two dangerous criminals and the recovery of a large quantity of suspected stolen goods.
The information came from a prior robbery victim, Rolex Atieno Owuor, who had reported a violent robbery on December 12, 2024.
Owuor identified a man believed to be involved in the robbery, and the police swiftly acted on this lead.
Kasagam Police, supported by the Kisumu East Subcounty undercover team, launched a well-coordinated operation.
They pursued the suspect, Gilbert Otieno Gilbert, alias Peto, and apprehended him in Nyalenda “A” Slums, approximately two kilometers south of the station.
Upon questioning, Gilbert led the officers to a hideout in Obunga Slums, within Kisumu Central Subcounty.
Which was tied to another known criminal, Mark Otieno, alias Faraj.
A raid of a rented house/store owned by Faraj revealed a mountain of suspected stolen items, including household appliances, electronics, furniture, and personal belongings.
Among the items recovered were a 65-inch Vitron TV, a 32-inch Samsung TV, a Comac laptop, a Ramtons fridge, two sofa sets, and various other valuable goods.

- 3 carpets
- 1 duvet
- 2 cloth draper tummies
- Salon apparatus
- Assorted clothes in a sack
- 10 pairs of shoes in a sack
- 1 Red Mattress (5×6)
- 7 women’s handbags
- Assorted children’s clothes
The two habitual criminals, Patrick Otieno Gilbert alias Peto and Mark Otieno alias Faraj, were thoroughly searched and placed in police custody for further processing.
They will soon be arraigned in court.
All the recovered goods have been well documented and are being kept safely until victims come forward for identification.
