The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has appointed Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o to chair the Central Management Committee meetings on behalf of Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday September 11, 2024, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna said that the move is meant to allow the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga focus on AUC chairmanship campaigns.
“That in light of the grueling campaign schedule by our Party Leader and the need for him to focus on this, he has designated H.E Peter Anyang Nyongo, the Governor Kisumu, to Chair any and such meetings of the Central Committee that may become necessary during periods of his absence,” said Sifuna.
Raila, who was present during the meeting urged all Party members to remain disciplined and avoid actions and words that undermine the Party and its organs.
At the same time the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) was directed to prepare and hold the postponed ODM grassroots elections in November 2024.
The committee further proposed Hamida Kibwana to replace Beatrice Askul on the NECC.
This comes after President William Ruto appointed Beatrice Askul as East African Community and Regional Affairs cabinet secretary.
