Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda now says President William Ruto will address Sondu clashes during his visit to the lake region.
Ojienda, who was expelled from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for visiting State House, welcomed Ruto to the region.
“The only way to stop the regrettable flare-ups in Sondu is for H.E the President to visit Nyanza and to take stern action on Perpetrators, fear mongers, and other inciters,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
More People Die In Fresh Sondu Attack
At least seven people have been confirmed dead within the past 24 hours in fresh attacks along the Kisumu-Kericho border.
Survivors were rushed to various hospitals including; St. Joseph Nyabondo Mission Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that tension gripped the area when a man from Soin Sigowet Sub-County was killed for allegedly being involved in cattle theft.
The killing of the man is said to have irked Kericho youth who raided homes in Sondu, leading to the deaths.
Leaders from Nyanza region called out Ruto’s administration for failing to take stern action seeing as this is not the first time the attacks have occurred.
Opiyo Wandayi Makes Appeal To Ruto
Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi urged the government to prioritize Sondu clashes as Luos are losing their lives daily.
According to Wandayi, the killings have been occurring since 2022, and this is merely the latest incident.
“We encourage the current government, led by Honorable William Ruto, to prioritize this problem, act quickly, and put an end to the ongoing atrocities.
“Attacks are taking place right now. We urge the ruling regime to act quickly and control the situation before it worsens, Wandayi said in a press conference at the parliament buildings on Wednesday.
Such incidents, according to Wandayi, might snowball into a civil strike that eventually becomes uncontrollable if they are not contained. He has urged the administration to provide protection.
President Ruto is expected to begin his visit to four Nyanza counties starting Friday, October 6.
