A tragic road accident near Katito claimed three lives and left three others in critical condition after a head-on collision involving a bodaboda motorbike and a 14-seater matatu.
The crash, which occurred on a busy stretch of road, has left the community in shock.
Reports indicate that the bodaboda rider, who is among the deceased, was carrying four passengers toward Katito when the motorbike collided head-on with the matatu.
The public service vehicle was traveling toward Homa Bay Town after departing Kisumu early in the morning.
Emergency responders rushed the three injured victims to St. Anne’s Nyadero Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Pap Onditi Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation.
Both the matatu and the motorbike have been towed to the Pap Onditi Police Station yard as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Authorities are examining factors such as speed, road conditions, and potential driver error.
The accident occurred shortly after Nyanza Regional Police Commander Patrick Tito issued a stern warning to motorists against driving under the influence of alcohol.
He emphasized the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
