Kitengela: Man stabs step daughter to death over marital issues

A disturbing incident occurred in Kitengela, Kajiado County on the night of Sunday May 5, 2024 after a man stabbed his step daughter and later killed himself.

The 16-year-old girl is alleged to have gone to the man’s house to pick up a phone when the incident occurred.

According to a report filed by police, a few minutes after the girl arrived at the house, the 59-year-old man is said to have attacked her with a kitchen knife, and stabbed her several times.

He later used the same weapon to stab himself to death.

Police officers who were notified by a neighbour who heard the commotion swiftly arrived at the scene of crime

They discovered two bodies lying on the floor of the two- bedroom rented house surrounded by a pool of blood.

The law enforcers also retrieved a letter, two sharp knives and a hammer.

However, before he committed the murder, the man identified as Chikophe Nyanje Chikokopha wrote a letter accusing his wife of infidelity.

Police reported that the girl sustained severe stab wounds on her back, abdomen, and left breast, along with multiple head injuries suspected to be inflicted by a sharp object.

The man on his side had stabbed wounds in the lower abdomen and visible intestine.

What made the man kill his step daughter?

According to Chikophe’s wife, Eveline Kerubo, she and her deceased husband had separated months ago and had been arrested and released several times for various criminal offences.

Kerubo said that she suspects the man killed her daughter to punish her for walking out of the marriage.

“It is true we have been living together for a while but I decided to leave him to avoid violence. However, my daughter used to visit him regularly. I can’t understand why he has decided to take the life of my daughter,” she said.

Isinya police commander Patrick Manyasi urged parents to resolve domestic disputes amicably.

The police took the bodies to Shalom Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
