Klopp’s teens strike thrice to send Liverpool into FA Cup quarters

Jayden Danns delivered two goals while fellow teenager Lewis Koumas also found the net as a youthful Liverpool squad secured a spot in the FA Cup quarterfinals with a commanding 3-0 win over Championship side Southampton on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Koumas, son of former Premier League player Jason Koumas, capitalized on a brilliant pass from Bobby Clark on the edge of the box, his shot deflecting off Jack Stephens and finding the bottom corner.

Jayden Danns, also 18, showcased his talent by scoring his first goal for Liverpool’s senior team in the 73rd minute, cleverly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Joe Lumley.

He struck again 15 minutes later, seizing on a loose ball after Lumley parried Conor Bradley’s shot.

Following their League Cup triumph over Chelsea, Liverpool, eight-time winners of the FA Cup, will face their arch-rivals Manchester United in the quarterfinals scheduled for the weekend of March 16.

A week ago, Liverpool rallied from a goal down to beat Luton Town and restore their four-point lead at the summit of the Premier League standings.

The victory was crucial, as Manchester City had closed the gap to just one point with their win against Brentford the previous evening.

Liverpool found themselves trailing by one goal at halftime, but Virgil van Dijk initiated the comeback with a strong header from an Alexis Mac Allister corner.

Cody Gakpo followed by putting the hosts ahead with a quick second goal, also assisted by Mac Allister. Luis Diaz, earlier missing chances, clinched the victory with smart play and a goal from close range.
