KNH issues 2 weeks ultimatum before disposing 253 unclaimed bodies

Kenya National Hospital (KNH) has issued a 14 days ultimatum before disposing 253 unclaimed bodies.

“The Kenyatta National Hospital is in possession of a number of unclaimed bodies at its Farewell home,” the notice by KNH read in part.

239 out of the said bodies are children entailing 132 boys and 107 girls.

There are five sets of twins and one set of quadruplets among the kids. The corpse of a fourth quadruplet is at the morgue as well.

In a notice on a local daily, KNH issued a two weeks ultimatum after which they will seek a court order to dispose off the bodies.

“Pursuant to Public Health Act Cap 242, interested members of the public are therefore requested to identify and collect bodies withing 14 days,” read the statement from the hospital’s management.

The bodies of 13 unidentified adults are also lying in the facility.

They entail two female bodies and 11 males. One male body has been identified as that of Cheptale Aruwalo Nalel.

Kenya National Hospital

Kenyatta National Hospital was founded in the year 1901. It then became a state corporation in 1987 through Legal Notice No. 109 of 6th April.

It was initially named King George VI and later changed to KNH after independence and declared a national teaching hospital.

KNH was envisioned as having 3 main functions:

• Serve as the national referral hospital

• Provide facilities for teaching

• Provide facilities for research
