Kenya Power Lighting and Company (KPLC) is on the spot for leaving power lines hanging dangerously for more than two years in Kimao village, Baringo South.
The residents, who are decrying danger of the lines and poles hanging along the roads and Kimao Primary School, are saying they have reported the matter to the company for the last two years but nothing have been done since then.
They lament that large part of the county has been without electricity since independence, which makes them feel disconnected from the rest of Kenya.
Initially optimistic about finally receiving electricity, their hopes were dashed when the electric poles installed were destroyed by ants and the transformer removed two years ago.
The risky situation of the hanging cables poses a significant danger to the residents, especially to children and livestock.
They also fear that if these cables come into contact with another working transformer, which supplies power to the Kimao Dam’s water pumping system, it could result in accidents.
The residents are now issuing a warning that they will personally dismantle the cables and convert them into scrap metal if prompt action is not taken before the schools reopen.
They are also appealing to area Member of Parliament Charles Kamuren and KPLC to immediately replace the poles to ensure their safety at the same time connect the residents to the national grid.
