The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially announced that the 2025 Safari 7s Invitational Tournament will take place from October 10 to 12 in Nairobi.
This marks a return to the capital after organizers experimented with hosting the 2024 edition at Machakos Kenyatta Stadium, an initiative aimed at promoting Kenya’s diverse tourism destinations.
“Safari 7s is an international tournament sanctioned by World Rugby. We want to showcase Kenya as a sporting destination and highlight venues beyond Nairobi,” said a KRU official.
Shujaa Aiming for Historic Four-Peat
Defending champions Kenya 7s, Shujaa, enter the 2025 tournament fresh off an impressive three-peat, having secured their third consecutive title in 2024.
Their latest victory came with a hard-fought 12-0 win over Shogun Rugby in a closely contested final at Machakos Stadium on October 13, 2024. This triumph added to their previous titles in 2021 and 2023, making them the first team to achieve a treble since 2008-2010.
Venue Yet to Be Confirmed
While Nairobi is set to host the tournament, the specific venue remains undecided. Past editions have been held at the Nyayo National Stadium and RFUEA Grounds, leaving rugby fans eager to see if the event will return to one of these traditional rugby venues.
