The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has secured a vital sponsorship deal for Shujaa, with Crown Paints stepping in to support the team in three remaining crucial legs of the 2024/2025 HSBC Sevens Series.
The sponsorship, worth KShs 2.625 million, marks a significant boost for the national sevens team as they prepare for three key tournaments: the Hong Kong Sevens from March 28-30, 2025, the Singapore Sevens on April 5-6, 2025, and the Los Angeles Sevens on May 3-4, 2025.
Speaking after announcing the partnership at the RFUEA Grounds, KRU Chairman Sasha Mutai expressed gratitude for Crown Paints’ decision to invest in rugby.
“This is a huge step forward for us. Crown Paints has a history with rugby, and we are excited to welcome them back in an even bigger way. This partnership is just the beginning, and we hope to build on it moving forward,” he said.
The deal includes KShs 1.625 million in cash, along with an additional KShs 1 million in paint products for pitch marking, facility upgrades, and a school painting program as part of Crown Paints’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
KRU Director of Rugby Paul Odera highlighted that sponsorships are about more than just financial aid.
“There are many aspects to the game, including psychological and nutritional support. Rugby is built on a strong ecosystem, and partnerships like this help create a positive environment for our players,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of Crown Paints, Group Chief Operations Officer Richard Muturi emphasized their enthusiasm for the collaboration.
“We are delighted to partner with Shujaa at a time when Kenyan rugby continues to grow. This sponsorship is not just about the team; it’s also about giving back to the community,” he said.
