KSh14M Londiani accident fund scandal: Court vindicates Kericho County Secretary, 5 others

The Employment and Labor Relations Court has vindicated former Kericho County Secretary Dr. Wesley Bor and five other county officials, including two County Executive Committee Members as well as three chief officers.

The Kericho County Assembly Adhoc Committee had recommended the removal of the six for the alleged misappropriation of the funds meant for the victims of the Londiani Road Accident where 53 people died and 24 sustained critical injuries on June 30th 2023.

In her ruling, Justice Helen Wasilwa found the recommendations for the removal to be flawed.

The court, in Constitutional Petition No. E006 of 2023, noted a significant disparity between the terms of reference and the recommendations made by the Adhoc committee.

The court further awarded the petitioners nominal damages of KSh200,000 each against the county assembly of Kericho.

This ruling comes even after Dr. Bor issued a one-month notice of resignation to Governor Dr. Erick Mutai, following the Kericho County Assembly’s unanimous motion to impeach him.

An investigations into the fund was launched after Kericho County Deputy Governor Fred Kirui claimed that KSh13.6 million collected during a fundraiser for Londiani Crash victims had been misappropriated.
