KUPPET rejects TSC promotions for 25,252 teachers

Hours after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) published details of  25,252 primary and post-primary school teachers who have been promoted this year, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Vihiga slammed the teachers’ employer over what is termed as vague teachers’ promotion results.

Speaking to TV47 Digital, KUPPET Executive Secretary in Vihiga Sabala Inyeni criticized TSC’s move to only publish the employment numbers of the promoted teachers, leaving out their names, counties and their new roles.

Sabala said that the Commission has lacked transparency in the promotions which took place early this year, adding that some regions in the country might lag behind in the recently concluded TSC promotions.

The list published by TSC on their website only indicates employment numbers of the 25,252 primary and post primary school teachers who have been promoted, a move that has left teachers bosses in the counties scratching their heads not knowing how many of their members have been elevated.

KUPPET also alleges that the ‘vague’ list could be covering up malice.

The teachers union officials in Vihiga  now want TSC to republish the list, indicating names of the promoted teachers, their counties and new roles.

This year, TSC has been allocated Ksh1 billion for teachers promotions, as the commission braces up for mass retirements anticipated to occur between June and August 2025.
